This project aims to build, rebuild, and strengthen collective bargaining and social dialogue across Europe by empowering industriAll Europe’s national affiliates to leverage the opportunities presented by the European Minimum Wage Directive (EMWD). The primary objectives are to foster trade union capacities to achieve the Directive’s target of 80% bargaining coverage.
industriAll Europe will advance ongoing efforts already underway to support our national affiliates with an ambitious transposition of the EMWD into law, along with the development of action plans for governments to submit to the European Commission.
The project will help our national members overcome the main obstacles to the unionisation of workers and collective bargaining, such as:
1. Insufficient legal frameworks for social dialogue and collective bargaining.
2. Employers’ refusal to engage in negotiations, particularly at the sectoral level.
3. Misrepresentation of social partners due to the presence of yellow unions.
4. Discrimination against union members and their elected shop stewards.
5. Lack of modern trade union tools in the digital age.
The project will feature three regional workshops, culminating in a final European conference that will convene more than 120 officers from our affiliates across Europe for a learning exercise involving the exchange of best practices and the latest agreements reached with employers. All events will be underpinned by tailored research and facilitated by trained experts.
Throughout the 24-month duration of the project, special attention will be given to the decarbonisation of industries as well as digitalisation, including the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace. Issues of equal treatment for workers of diverse genders and origins will also be addressed through academic studies.
