The workers and trade unions have shown incredible strength in taking action to demand the continuation of work at this historic shipyard. The area has a proud industrial history and it is important to protect this and to protect industrial jobs in the area.

Luis Colunga, Deputy General Secretary of industriAll Europe, states:
“The workers and trade unions have shown incredible strength in taking action to demand the continuation of work at this historic shipyard. The area has a proud industrial history and it is important to protect this and to protect industrial jobs in the area.’’

The Harland and Wolff Shipyard, famous for building the Titanic, employs 120 workers and plays a vital role in the local community. The new buyer Infratrata has confirmed that it will retain most of the workers who are still employed and hopes to increase the workforce by "several hundred" over the next five years.

Luis Colunga, added:
“We are extremely proud of our members, Unite the Union and GMB Union, who have supported the workers in this challenging time. The UK shipbuilding sector has suffered greatly over the past few years and we strongly hope that the new buyer will invest in the shipyard and its workers, who have shown their passion and their commitment to this important sector.’’
